Our origin story
Fablesmithy is the brainchild of Autumn Bauman, a writer of slipstream SFF novels. As an active member of online writing communities, she witnessed the immense hurdles indie authors face in vetting editors, designers, and narrators. Finding a freelancer who could meet the sacred trio of cost, trust, and talent means hours of research or asking around for recommendations — and that’s for just one freelancer. Traditional publishing houses have whole teams dedicated to producing their books. To compete against those titles, indie authors need editors, proofreaders, graphic designers, artists, narrators, marketing specialists, publicists…
Autumn knew that there had to be an easier way. After a brief discussion, four friends with a passion for books banded together to create Fablesmithy, a complete book production studio based in Southern California. We bring together decades of experience in editing, design, and voice work. Catch us in the wild, and you’ll find us reading, writing, running book clubs, and Instagramming our latest reads.
